Coaches Corner

Coach Nate Goellrich is the Head Baseball Coach at Estancia High School in Costa Mesa, CA. He is entering his 11th season as a head coach and 15th year overall in coaching high school baseball. This past season he lead the Varsity Eagles to their 2nd CIF Championship in four years. In 2022, he lead the Eagles to the CIF Championship and SoCal Regional Championship. 

Overall, in 10 seasons he has an overall record of 182-107 with eight playoff appearances, League Championship in 2023, CIF Championship in 2022 and 2025; and CIF Regional Championship in 2022.

In 2022, Coach Goellrich was named American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) High School Baseball Coach of the Year.  He has also recieved CIF Coach of the Year in 2022 and 2025.

Coach Goellrich played high school baseball at Brea Olinda High School earning all league honors as a pitcher. He then went on to play baseball at California Lutheran University where he earned a degree is Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.

Hi, I’m Coach Chris Ruiz. I was born and raised in Redlands, California, and I’ve been playing baseball since I was five years old. At Redlands High School, I was a starting shortstop and team captain for three years, then continued my playing career at Chaffey College. 

I’ve been fortunate to coach at Banning High School, work with numerous USSSA baseball camps, and provide private instruction to players of all ages. I’m currently an assistant varsity baseball coach at Estancia High School while pursuing my teaching credential in mathematics at Cal State Long Beach.

My coaching philosophy is all about helping players grow every day — not just in baseball, but in life. I value hustle, coachability, and showing up ready to work. My goal is to create a positive, competitive environment where athletes can develop skills, build confidence, and learn the value of effort and accountability.

Coach Brian Burgess is entering his 22nd year  at Estancia High School as a physical education teacher. This is his 16th season as  a baseball coach at Estancia. Coach Burgess works with the Outfielders and is the varsity 1st base coach.

Coach Burgess is also currently the girl's golf coach and has been the Head Wrestling coach as well. Coach Burgess wrestled 2 years at Santa Ana College and then 2 years at Lindenwood University.

Coach Burgess was apart of the coaching staff that won the 2022 CIF Championship and SoCal Regional Championship.

Coach Andres Hernandez has been the head JV Baseball Coach at Estancia High School the past 8 years. Coach Hernandez was a four-year varsity letterman in Baseball at Estancia. Coach Hernandez still plays baseball on the weekends. His main goal is to inspire student athletes to believe in themselves and that with hard work and a dedication; not only to their baseball skill set but to the way they represent themselves as young adults, they can further their playing career.
